Subsurface Sewage Treatment Systems
(A Natural Resources Block Grant Program)
Pennington County requires permits for septic systems being installed, replaced or repaired. Download the PDF below or come into the office for a permit application.

Subsurface Sewage Treatment Systems (SSTS) are commonly known as septic systems. The purpose of a septic system is to treat sewage from your household. Proper treatment of wastewater reduces health risks to humans and animals and prevents surface and groundwater contamination.
The Pennington SWCD also offers Clean Water Fund Grant money. This money is used to replace existing failing septic systems. This includes sewage discharge to the ground surface, sewage backup into a dwelling or establishment, systems failing to protect groundwater or sewage discharge to surface waters. Qualified candidates must also meet low income guidelines. The money is limited and available on a first come first serve basis. For more information or questions contact the Pennington SWCD.

Along with the Clean Water Fund Grant money, we also offer applications through the AgBMP Loan Program. This program was created to encourage the improvement of water quality by providing low interest (3% max rate) loans up to $200,000 for a period of no longer than 10 years.
If you are interested in applying for this loan please fill out the posted application, or contact the office for more information.
